چکیده

Terahertz range of electromagnetic spectrum (0.1 ÷ 10) THz has focused attention of scientists for years because of many interesting features including existence of spectral fingerprints of many materials (also explosives), through clothing imaging and safety for human being. Such advantages are of great importance for biochemical, defense and security related applications. Scanning of pure explosives in transmission mode is limited to samples with thickness less than about 1 mm, which is connected with relatively high attenuation especially in absorption peaks regions. In case of thicker samples one should consider a reflection way of measurement. We examined 100% pure samples made of explosives: hexogen (RDX), penthryte (PETN), octogen (HMX), their mixtures (RDX+PETN, RDX+HMX) as well as sugar and simulants of explosives — L-tartaric acid and 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Spectra were acquired using commercial time domain spectroscopy (TDS) setup from TeraView (TPS Spectra 3000) with appropriate accessories in atmosphere with humidity less than 1%. We carried out our experiments using 3 configurations: transmission, specular reflection with incident angle 45◦ and stand-off reflection with 30 and 40 cm distance to a sample.

Wideband terahertz spectroscopy of explosives

Time-domain terahertz spectroscopy (TDTS) has been shown to be a promising tool in detection of explosives and explosive related compounds. To date, TDTS for many explosives has been limited to spectral regions <3 THz. With recent improvements in emitters and sensors of THz radiation, we report the THz absorption spectra over an extended frequency band from 0.5 to 6 THz for four explosives: RDX...

Time and Frequency Resolved THz Spectroscopy of Micro- and Nano-Systems

Terahertz technology [1], at present a dynamically developing field, was enabled by advances in ultra-short pulse lasers and semiconductor coherent sources in the frequency range of 1–50 THz. The extensive activities are focused on THz optics, spectrally bright sources, and detectors. The terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and terahertz imaging are main fields, where terahertz technology finds ...

Compound Explosives Detection and Component Analysis via Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy

We present qualitative and quantitative component analyses on compound explosives via Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) based on a combination of wavelet thresholding and wavelength selection. Despite its importance, the field of signal processing of THz signals of compound plastic explosives is relatively unexplored. In this paper, experiment results from explosives Composition B-3 ...

7 GHz resolution waveguide THz spectroscopy of explosives related solids showing new features.

The vibrational modes of the explosive related solids 2,4- and 2,6-DNT have been measured with waveguide THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) to unprecedented precision. Dramatic sharpening of spectral features upon cooling beyond 80 K to 12 K is observed, illustrating the high quality and alignment of the polycrystalline thin films. Many of the observed features have linewidths below 15 GHz....

Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy of Metallic Particle Ensembles

The terahertz (THz) frequency range is the region of the electromagnetic spectrum between the microwave and optical bands spanning from 0.1 THz to 10 THz. Historically, electromagnetic radiation in this frequency range has been inaccessible due to the lack of widespread electronic or laser-based radiation sources. Electronic radiation sources such as crystal oscillators are generally confined t...
